IT Project Monitoring - Detailed Weekly Report


In IT projects, we have found many failed implementations and both parties (vendor and client) are blaming each other.  They both seem to be right.  That is why project monitoring especially the weekly report plays an important role in understanding where the problems are.

In my experience, vendors are often too focus in detailed IT implementation and the system.  In the end, they forget to create weekly report in details.  Even if they are encountering problems caused by client, the consultant or programmers tend to deal in finding the work around solutions.  Once the consultants have spent time and finally not moving anywhere, that is the time he/she creates report telling the problem.  Sometime it is too late.  The time have been spent and no way to extend the life of the projects.

This article is to remind all vendors doing IT projects as not to forget the detailed weekly report to the client and make sure that the client understand it fully.  If needed, not just send the report through email.  But also print and discuss it with client paragraph by paragraph.

!!! Even if the problem is cause by client, it will be your problem if you are not telling them !!!
